Duke of Edinburgh Expedition (Bronze)

On the weekend of the 15th and 16th Air cadets from 1740 and 2175 (Rolls Royce) Sqn participated in the Duke of Edinburgh from Callander to Aberfoyle. For some cadets this was their qualifier and others this was their practice expedition.

Throughout the previous weeks at both squadrons, cadets have been route planning for this expedition, this included planning times for rests, calculating the altitude and distance that will be covered and the time the walk should take. Cadets also participated in a kitcheck at the squadrons, this was our essential equipment for our journey.

Cadets started the expedition at Loch Venachar, Callander at the car park. This expedition took us up a large incline walking past the loch, through the stunning forests of the countryside. Cadets spotted wildlife such as Slugs, Birds and Sheep. Cadets ventured. The expedition of the groups were “ To explore the natural beauty of Aberfoyle” and “To explore the Trossachs and respect wildlife and nature”. During our travels we navigated successfully, and were on time at all of our checkpoints. On route to the campsite we approached many places such as Dunon Adventure Camp, Aberfoyle Town Centre, Animal pens such as pigs and horses. After many hours of a pleasant venture cadets arrived at Cobleland Campsite, after a short break the cadets successfully set up the tent and prepared a very delicious meal after a long 13 mile walk. After a great sleep cadets prepared breakfast and packed the tents away and ventured to our next destination. This walk took us through the forests and rivers and we past farms and natural wildlife. Cadets arrived at Drymen carpark where the minibus was waiting to collect us. After the expedition cadets travelled to 2175 sqn to pack away.
